Encoding Your VOB to DivX ;-)

Before we begin, you will need to download FlaskMPEG. It is in my software section. Once you get it installed, Launch Flask and Go to FILE>OPEN. Select the VOB file that was created during the ripping process. You will now be prompted to select which audio track you wish to import, select 0x80 (this is the default English audio track).

Go to OPTIONS>GLOBAL PROJECT OPTIONS. Click on the button SHOW OUTPUT PAD and then click on the RESET SETTINGS button. Your screen should now display something like the picture below.

Click on the '-' of the Width in Output Size until it is 512 and then click on the '-' on the Height until it's as close to 409.6 as it can be. DO NOT leave it at 720x576!!! If things look to thin or wide, adjust the height of the movie to make it look better.

Now click the Crop checkbox in the upper left corner and then the '-' on the Height button until there is a minimum of black below. Then click the '+' on the Top offset until there's a minimum of black in the top (Do NOT try to remove the black fields on the left or right.) Your window should now look something like picture below.

When you finish doing that, click the Hide button. Check the cover of your DVD disc to see what region it is. If it's a region 2 (PAL) disc then set your settings to what the following picture shows (only your Frame Size settings should differ).

If it's a region 1 (NTSC) then set the settings to what the following pictures shows (only your Frame Size settings should differ).

Click on the Audio tab and check the Don't Process Audio radio-button.

Then click on the Post Processing tab and make sure that the HQ Bicubic Filtering radio-button is checked as well as the No letterboxing and Keep aspect ratio checkboxes as seen below.

Then click on the Files tab and choose the destination and filename of your final DivX ;-) encoded video. Then click on the General tab and make sure that the Compile Whole File checkbox is checked. After all this is done you can click on the OK button.

We then choose Output Format Options from the Options menu and then click on the Select Codec button in the top (video). Choose DivX ;-) MPEG-4 Low-Motion and then click on the Configure... button. Set the key frame to every 10 seconds and the Compression Control to 100% as seen below.

It's now time to launch the application DVtool to decide what the data rate should be for our video. Set the Movie Length to the runtime of your movie and then set Audio Format and Storage Media to what the picture below shows. Now take the value shown in Calculated Bit rate and set the value of the Data Rate in FlaskMPEG to this. After this click on the OK buttons in FlaskMPEG until you get to the main window. You can also quit the DVtool application now.

Go to RUN>START CONVERSION This will start the long process of DivX encoding your video. As soon as the progress window appears, uncheck the Display Output checkbox and set the Priority Settings to Highest. Depending on the size of your movie, you will have a perfect DivX ;-) movie in about 6-8 hours. Do not be scared when your PC nearly stops responding. This is normal.
