Extracting
Audio with Ac3Dec
In order to make a clean audio track for our DivX ;-) movie, we need to
get the sound from the VOB files in some way. The audio on a DVD is in a format
called Ac3. This format allows multichannel sound, like Dolby Digital to be
incorporated with a DVD movie. Unfortunately, Ac3 is quite large, and that in
it's self defeats the purpose to use it. What we will eventually do, is extract
the Ac3 sound into a PCM Wave file. The reason we do this, is so that we can
make it a little easier when compiling our sound into Mp3 or WMA.
Ac3Dec works well for
converting Ac3 audio to PCM Wave. You can get it from my software
page. Ac3Dec is a DOS program and is pretty hard to use. That is why we
will be using a Windows front end for the program called DanniDinGUI.
This is also on my software page. Once you have
both downloaded, UNZIP Ac3Dec into some folder on you HD. LOAD DanniDin,
and CLICK on the AC3DEC button at the top of the page. ( circled
in red on picture )
Don’t freak out yet, I know there are a lot of buttons and gadgets, but
we will not even have to worry about them. Just the ones circled in red. Now, CLICK the “A” button to select the location of Ac3Dec.
Click the X button on the bottom to exit. Next, we need to find the VOB,
so CLICK the “B” button.
Lastly, we need to tell it where to save or output Wave file, so CLICK
the “C” button.
Now that all the settings are chosen, we can move along to the encoding.
Look at the bottom of this screen, right under the CREATE MY WAV button,
and CLICK the check box “PCM WAVE”
Once you have done all of that, CLICK the CREATE MY WAV button.
You will see a screen that looks like this.
